Ronnie, a member of a class, shares with his classmates that his hero is his grandfather’s dog, Hachi, and proceeds to tell the story. The narrative begins with Parker Wilson, a professor who discovers a lost dog at the Bedridge railway station. He takes the dog temporarily and eventually forms a strong bond with it. Named Hachi, after the character on its collar tag, the dog becomes an inseparable part of Parker’s life, despite initial challenges in training him.

As time passes, Hachi becomes an integral part of the Wilson family, even included in a family marriage photograph. The loyal dog’s devotion to Parker is displayed when he follows him to the station every day, waiting for his return at 5:00 pm. Tragically, after Parker’s sudden death, Hachi continues to wait faithfully at the station, deeply mourning the loss of his best friend.

The heartwarming and poignant tale continues as Hachi’s loyalty and devotion capture the community’s attention, leading to a reporter writing a story about him. This results in an outpouring of support from people who send him money and cards. Despite efforts by Parker’s family to provide Hachi with a new home, the loyal dog continuously returns to the Bedridge station, where he is cared for by the local community.

The story culminates with a touching moment when Ken, Parker’s Japanese friend, visits Hachi and communicates with him in Japanese, expressing his longing for his best friend.
